Lindenwood College - St. Charles, Missouri
This college was founded in 1827, the first women's college west of the Mississippi River. The original building was
a log structure suitable for 40 girls. The college derived its name from a forest of linden trees located on the
original campus site. Founders were Major George C. Sibley and his wife, Mary Easton Sibley, who came to St. Charles
in the early 1800s.
