Wesleyan University
Since the mountain laurel is the state flower of Connecticut, it appears upon a characteristic Staffordshire
background of lattice work as the chief ornament of the plates of Wesleyan University. Surmounting the whole is
the university seal. The ancient trees on the campus, pines, maples and elms, are given full expression in
connection with the distinctive New England style of architecture.
This series was sponsored by the Wesleyan Alumni Association, and was brought out to permit even its most distant
graduates and their friends to share in the Centennial of the founding of the University. Dignified simplicity
defines the style of the Wesleyan plates.
